This post is referencing to the previous post "Sugar is Bad". I had posted a list of reasons why sugar is bad and what it can do to your body if it is consumed excessively. In fact in order for the brain to function properly we do need glucose. Glucose is the only fuel normally used by brain cells. Because neurons cannot store glucose, they depend on the bloodstream to deliver a constant supply of this precious fuel.
Now a little sweetness here and there will not kill us or ruin our bodies. There are healthy and natural sugars that we can enjoy without feeling guilty. Remember, everything needs to be balanced in our lives. When I say we should stay away from sugar I am talking about white sugar, processed goods, cans, sodas and candies. Of course in our lives there are occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries that we would like to have a slice of cake. No problem. We just need to remember that too much is unhealthy and that if we want to rid ourselves of our disease we have to be discipline enough to cut out the unnecessary foods in our diets.
I am not immune to cravings and once in awhile I will have some ice cream or something sweet. I just wanted to share with everyone that in order to heal you must find what is the source to your pain. For some, it is too much sugar.
If you are craving some sweetness in your life remember that you can use organic honey, Stevia, blue agave, or Xylitol. Also, fruits have a natural sugar. If you freeze a banana it becomes pretty sweet. If you love cookies or cakes the best thing would be for you to bake them yourselves. At least you have control in what ingredients are being used. Be creative and be healthy.
A little sweetness brings happiness to our lives and there is no problem in having a treat once in a while.
