Oil Pulling? Have you heard about it....

I was leaving the house when my sister-in-law said to me "Have you heard of Oil Pulling? You should check it out". So I did and I found it interesting enough to try and I am excited to see what kind of results it may bring. I am using organic coconut oil since I read somewhere that this oil has more anti-inflammatory properties. Below I have copied an article that I thought was very interesting.

It may or may not cure Lupus but it has the possibility of diminishing the symptoms. Why not try it? If we want to cure ourselves from this disease we must try anything and everything!
I will let you know what happens! I am pretty excited!!

Oil Pulling for a Brighter Smile and Better Health
by Bruce Fife
“That sounds ridiculous,” exclaimed Rick in disbelief. “It will never work. How could it? It doesn’t make any sense.” Rick suffered from chronic sinusitis. At night when lying down, his nose would stop up, making it difficult for him to breathe and to sleep. The congestion also caused him to experience frequent headaches.
The therapy I was telling him about was oil pulling. Although oil pulling has its origins in Ayurvedic medicine, which dates back thousands of years, this modern version is relatively new, at least in the United States. Oil pulling is very simple. Basically all you do is rinse your mouth out with vegetable oil, much like you would with a mouthwash. As simple as it sounds, if done correctly it has a very powerful cleansing and healing affect not only on the mouth and sinuses, but the entire body.
A few days later, Rick called me on the phone. “Wow! This oil pulling stuff really works,” he exclaimed. “My sinuses began to drain immediately. I expelled a lot of dark yellow, gross looking mucous. I’m breathing easier and sleeping better and my headaches are gone!”
I wasn’t surprised with Rick’s success. I hear many similar responses from others with various health problems. “I was skeptical at first,” says Cynthia. “I couldn’t see how swishing oil in my mouth could help with my arthritis. After eight days I noticed the pain in my hands diminished considerably. There was also marked improvement in my neck and I could move my head from side to side without any pain. I was amazed at how quickly I got results. I haven’t felt this good in along time!”
Some people think I’m crazy when I tell them that oil pulling can help those with asthma, allergies, chronic fatigue, diabetes, migraine headaches, PMS, and chronic skin problems. Oil pulling works by detoxifying or cleansing the body. In this way, disease promoting toxins are removed, thus allowing the body to heal itself. As a consequence, health problems of all types improve.
“I’ve suffered for several years with joint and lower back pain,” says Anna. “Every morning it was difficult getting out of bed because the pain. After two months of oil pulling the pain is all but gone. I’m amazed. Although I began oil pulling to relieve the joint pain, a few other things happened that I didn’t expect. I’m surprised to see that the eczema on my arm and hand disappearing and my skin becoming smoother and softer. Nothing I had tried before had helped. I sleep better at night too, so I have more energy during the day. I no longer need my mid-day naps. I have so much energy I almost feel like a teenager again. My periods have become more regular with less cramping and less mood swings. Also, my teeth, gums, and tongue are cleaner than they’ve ever been.”
The first thing that most people notice when they start oil pulling is an improvement in their oral health. Teeth become whiter, breath becomes fresher, and the tongue and gums take on a healthy pink color. Even problems such as bleeding gums, tooth decay, and gum disease are greatly diminished or completely healed.
“I had a really bad infection in my mouth,” says Brittany. “It was so painful that I could not sleep. Pain medication helped temporarily. I was sure that I needed another root canal. After hearing about oil pulling I decided to give it a try before going to the dentist. I began oil pulling three times a day. By the very next day the pain was gone! No soreness, nothing. I was shocked. I continue to oil pull and my teeth are whiter and healthier looking then they have ever been. My gums have stopped bleeding, they used to bleed after every brushing. They are no longer receding and my teeth feel tighter. On my last visit to the dentist he was amazed at how much better my teeth and gums looked. He told me to continue to do whatever I was doing.”
Oil pulling traces it roots to oil gargling practiced in Ayurvedic medicine. Oil pulling as we know it today, was introduced in 1992 by Dr. F. Karach, MD. Dr. Karach claimed that oil pulling could cure a variety of illnesses ranging from heart disease and digestive troubles to hormonal disorders. He said it cured him of a chronic blood disorder of 15 years duration and within three days it cured his arthritis, which at times was so painful he was bed ridden. He used the method in his medical practice with great success.
Dr. Karach’s method of oil pulling consists of swishing, not gargling, vegetable oil in the mouth. The oil is “worked” in the mouth by pushing, pulling, and drawing it through the teeth for a period of 15 to 20 minutes. It is done one to three times a day on an empty stomach. The best time is in the morning before eating breakfast, but can be done before any meal. The used oil is discarded and the mouth rinsed out with water. The oil is never swallowed because it is loaded with bacteria, toxins, pus, and mucous.
Sunflower and sesame seed oils are the most commonly used for oil pulling, but any vegetable oil will work. People have had success with olive, coconut, almond, and other oils. I prefer to use coconut oil because of its many health benefits. If you use a mild flavored coconut oil it is very pleasant in the mouth. Some oils, such as extra virgin olive oil, are so strong flavored that many people find them difficult to use.
The oil acts like a cleanser. When you put it in your mouth and work it around your teeth and gums it “pulls” out bacteria and other debris. It acts much like the oil you put in your car engine. The oil picks up dirt and grime. When you drain the oil, it pulls out the dirt and grime with it, leaving the engine relatively clean. Consequently, the engine runs smoother and lasts longer. Likewise, when we expel harmful substances from our bodies our health is improved and we run smoother and last longer.
As simple as it is, oil pulling has a very powerful detoxifying effect. Our mouths are the home to billions of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other parasites and their toxins. Candida and Streptococcus are common residents in our mouths. It is these types of germs and their toxic waste products that cause gum disease and tooth decay and contribute to many other health problems including arthritis and heart disease. Our immune system is constantly fighting these troublemakers. If our immune system becomes overloaded or burdened by excessive stress, poor diet, environmental toxins and such, these organisms can spread throughout the body causing secondary infections and chronic inflammation, leading to any number of health problems.
Oil pulling is one of the most remarkable methods of detoxification and healing I have ever experienced in my career as a naturopathic physician. It helped me overcome a chronic skin problem that other forms of detoxification, including numerous juice fasts lasting up to 30 days, were unable to cure.
Oil pulling can work its magic almost instantly. Some people report relief from certain conditions after doing it only once. Minor problems often clear up within a few days. More serious, chronic problems may require a few weeks or several months or more depending on lifestyle issues.
Toxins are pulled from the body the very first time you try it. One of the first cleansing symptoms you will experience is an increased flow of mucous from your throat and sinuses. Mucous drainage is one of the body’s methods of removing toxins. While you are pulling, mucous may build in the back of your throat. You may even have to expel the oil and clear the mucous from your throat before reaching a full 20 minutes. That’s okay, take another spoonful of oil and continue until you’ve pulled for a total of 15-20 minutes. You may also experience a little nausea and perhaps even need to vomit as your body expels toxic waste. Other symptoms may also arise temporarily. These symptoms will subside as your body becomes cleaner and you become more comfortable with oil pulling. Unlike other methods of detoxification that last for only a short time, oil pulling should become a regular part of your daily schedule, like brushing your teeth.
Oil pulling is incredibly effective in brightening teeth, healing gums, preventing bad breath, quenching inflammation, and healing oral infections. It is also effective in treating many systemic conditions throughout the body.
As good as it is, the simple oil pulling method described in this article isn’t always enough. Some people and some conditions require a little extra care. For this reason, I took oil pulling and developed it into a more complete, more effective method that I call Oil Pulling Therapy. This program incorporates medicated coconut oil (which you can make yourself), diet, select nutrients, oral pH balancing procedures, and, for those who have amalgam (mercury) fillings or metal crowns, a detox procedure designed specifically for removing heavy metals, all of which combine to greatly enhance the effects and healing properties of oil pulling. The details of this program are covered in my new book Oil Pulling Therapy: Detoxifying and Healing the Body Through Oral Cleansing.
Oil pulling is cheap; the only expense is for the oil you use. It is very easy; you simply swish oil in your mouth. Compared to other forms of detoxification it is relatively effortless. It doesn’t require dieting, fasting, or consuming unpleasant, and often bowel loosening, mixes of herbs and pills. And it is completely harmless. All you are doing is rinsing your mouth out with vegetable oil—a food. You’re not even swallowing the oil. What can be more benign than that? Nearly anyone can do it, regardless of their level of health. If you have health issues, don’t let the simplicity of oil pulling deter you from trying it. Sometimes the simplest procedures produce the greatest results. ■

We all have the potential to become Miracles!!!

The last year has been difficult and especially the last 3 months I have felt a sense of lost and hopelessness because I had to surrender to my doctors, and take the medications that they insisted on. I felt that I was becoming like all the other Lupus patients, taking the meds, relying on what the doctor says and just trying to control my symptoms. About 2-3 weeks ago, I started to listen to music again. I use to listen to music (all different types) all the time, but since marrying my husband, who doesnt particularly care so much for music, I have not listened to it as much. As I was listening, and feeling inspired and energetic, something came over me. I just started pouring out, and crying. I was not crying because of my pain, or feeling sorry for myself or because of my sufferring but I was crying for God to give me the strength to overcome and get rid of this disease. I was crying because I know that I am not the only one suffering with this disease and pain. I was crying because I know God loves me, and I need to accept that!

I felt a sense of desperation and redetermination and I felt such a strong and clear answer that I am not meant to live like this. This is not me! This is not my life! I called to God and my grandparents, and told them "I will be healed, I AM healed and I need you to be with me!"
I put in my mind again that this is not my purpose in life. I have been through a lot with this disease, and I am grateful for this journey but the journey is ending. It has ended! I determined myself that I will get off these medications, and I AM free of Lupus!

When I think of the future, I think of all the many things that I am going to do, and what I will accomplish...I don't think about how this disease is going to effect my future and dreams. I know it can be hard to imagine a life without symptoms or a disease that has "defined" you but you must have hope and determination that no disease will truly stop you from being who you truly are.

We all have a purpose in life and I absolutely KNOW that living with Lupus or any other disease is not our purpose. This is not our destination! We have to be strong and tell ourselves that we can overcome and we WILL overcome! Relying on medications, doctors and others is not our answer. The question is "Do you CHOOSE to stay and live with this disease or are you going to DECIDE to get rid of it?"
The answer is your personal decision but for me I have CHOSEN to say that I AM HEALED and I AM LUPUS FREE!

It is amazing how God will give you answers in ways you least expect. I was not expecting to get this redetermination while listening to Taylor Swift but it happened. And then last night I watched an incredible testimony by Anita Moorjani on you tube. This video again just confirmed to me that my decision is the right decision for me!

We all have this incredible source of love and power that we can heal ourselves. Please, take a look at the video if you have a chance. Anita's near death experience reminds me that I could be a lot worst but I am not, and if this could happen to her, why not me!?

I think each and everyone of us our Miracles, whether we know it or not. We may or may not have a disease to overcome, but some how your life can be filled with miracles. You can become a miracle for someone! Just being able to live in this world, and to have love surrounding you is a miracle.

I know that I will be cured of Lupus and it will be done in a Miraculous way!!!

Thanksgiving...a time to be grateful

Hello Everyone!
It has been a long time since I have updated my blog and to be honest it is because I have been put to the test again. This year has started off with a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy in which ended up causing me to have multiple flare-ups. In June, I had a severe flare-up which caused me to have vascultities in which several of my toe tips and my left finger index tip turned black. I have been suffering with an open wound on my left foot and the pain has been unimaginable.
Again, I tried to stay positive and look for other alternative then the drug regimen but due to my health not getting better and actually becoming worse, I started the drug regimen that the doctors advised me on. Now I am on steroids, a chemo category drug, and a vaso-dialator. I am also taking pain meds as needed.

When I think about this year, I can easily fall into a mood of despair, and hopelessness but I don't. I know this is just a bump in the road and I know I WILL get HEALED and I am hopeful that I can get back on the right track without taking these medications.

I just want to say, no matter where you are in life or what you are going through, there is always something to be grateful. I am so loved by my husband and my family. I have close friends that support and care for me. And of all I have God who is with me in this journey. He is there to wipe my tears, to bring comfort to my pain and to embrace me when I feel lost.

I too will not give up on myself. I will continue to value and love myself because I deserve that.

Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for being you!!!

A Time to Remember

I started righting this post so that I could submit it for September 11 but completly got overwhelmed with work and life that I forgot all about it. So I would like to post it now, since it pertains to every day life.

9-11 was a tragic day and I can remember that day like if it was yesterday. Many people lost their lives, family members and friends due to terrorism. I remember that day because I was one of those EMTs that volunteered to go to NY but because I was in high school at that time I was unable to go. They had sent two EMTs from my squad that day to go to NY and the rest were in Jersey City or located at the train station of Metuchen (Our town). We were to assist the victims coming back by train. Metuchen actually had many commuters that went to work in NY. I can recall so many faces that looked terrified and distraught. People were coming out of the trains with dust and ash all over them. Some limping. Some crying. There was not one single look in their faces that appeared to be okay. Of course what I saw was no where near what the police officers, firefighters, nurses, paramedics and EMT saw in NY. I remember working a 24 hr shift that day and waiting for the others to arrive. The NY medics were sending a lot of patients that needed care over the Jersey City Hospitals. The sad thing was that they had no one arriving in Jersey City, which meant there were no survivors.

This post is to remind us that we should be grateful for our lives. Even though we have a disease we should take each day as our only day and show the people around us that we love and care about them. None of these people who went into work thought that this was going to be their last day. When we go into a car, train or plane, we are never sure if we are going to return. We hear in the news random shootings that occur in schools, restaurants or businesses. People get killed in this country everyday. People get sick and die. I almost lost my life a year and half ago.

I know that I need to appreciate those around me and be grateful for my life and for what I have. It is so easy to complain about life and to treat people badly. I really want to become a person in which can embrace and connect with anybody. I know it is a lot of work to be aware of our attitudes but don't you think it is worth the extra work? If we could watch our emotions and stressors in life, then I think it would make it easier to control this illness. We all want to have happiness in our lives and I believe the way we treat people is one way to be able to achieve that goal. So let us look at our lives, and no matter what we go through, we should be appreciative of the life we have.

I have Lupus. I am grateful for having the experience I have had with you. (Lupus) You have helped me grow to become someone who wants to help others control this disease. I know we will part one day but for now I embrace you. I am grateful and appreciate all the love and support that I receive from my family and friends. I could not do this without you all. Thank you!

Busy Bee

One thing that I seem to always get myself into is that I end up putting an enormous amount of things on my plate. What I mean is that I keep myself busy, but sometimes I am too busy that I get overwhelmed and stressed. I know for me to continue to move forward to a healthy and non-stressful life is to be able to say no and to just do what is needed.

I went to a nurse's conference a couple of years ago and one of the speaker said "Nurses seem to not know how to say "No". We work our 12 hour shift and if someone needs coverage we end up taking there shift even when we do not want to." She also stated that this is why nurses get burnt out very quickly. In her speech, she made all of us promise that if we did not want to do something, we should express it and say "No, thank you".

I have always been someone who wants to please everybody. Many times I have grind my teeth and went along with something I either did not want to do or did not feel like doing it. I feel a pressure to please people. I am learning everyday that this is NOT healthy. We need to realize that we should spend our time and energy on something that we WANT to do and enjoy doing it. If we continue to put our lives in other peoples decision we end up losing control, feeling resentful and angry. Like I have stated in previous post, emotions have such an influence on our health. You can eat healthy and exercise but if you are always angry, resentful, depressed and so on...You will not recover from your illness.

I am a busy bee, and it is not a bad thing. I just have to make sure what I do is something I am doing for "my sake". I know for myself, I am trying to learn how to be honest to people. It is so hard for me to be honest and to not hurt someone but in the end if I don't do this then I am only hurting myself.

So the point of this post is that we need to enjoy the things we do and to not let people override us. In the midst of our hectic schedules, we need to stop, breathe and appreciate our lives. I believe if we don't do this, then our lives will past us by so fast that we will forget to appreciate the little things in life. I think it is important to help people and take care of people but if I am not healthy then I can not be able to help others. So we need help ourselves before we can help others.

So today I am going to try to the best of my abilities to do what I want and enjoy it. I will not feel pressured by anyone and I will think only positive thoughts. I also start my liver and gallbladder cleanse for this month. It is pretty incredible how I am feeling these days. I barely have pain and when I do I know that I need to rest, take MSM and reevaluate my emotions.

Step by step I believe I will be cured from Lupus. I go see the Rheumatologists this month and I will ask her to test my ANA levels. I will let you all know how it goes. We can get rid of this disease and I know each one of you have that capabilities. God Bless You and have a wonderful week!

A Little Sweetness In Our Life

This post is referencing to the previous post "Sugar is Bad". I had posted a list of reasons why sugar is bad and what it can do to your body if it is consumed excessively. In fact in order for the brain to function properly we do need glucose. Glucose is the only fuel normally used by brain cells. Because neurons cannot store glucose, they depend on the bloodstream to deliver a constant supply of this precious fuel.

Now a little sweetness here and there will not kill us or ruin our bodies. There are healthy and natural sugars that we can enjoy without feeling guilty. Remember, everything needs to be balanced in our lives. When I say we should stay away from sugar I am talking about white sugar, processed goods, cans, sodas and candies. Of course in our lives there are occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries that we would like to have a slice of cake. No problem. We just need to remember that too much is unhealthy and that if we want to rid ourselves of our disease we have to be discipline enough to cut out the unnecessary foods in our diets.

I am not immune to cravings and once in awhile I will have some ice cream or something sweet. I just wanted to share with everyone that in order to heal you must find what is the source to your pain. For some, it is too much sugar.

If you are craving some sweetness in your life remember that you can use organic honey, Stevia, blue agave, or Xylitol. Also, fruits have a natural sugar. If you freeze a banana it becomes pretty sweet. If you love cookies or cakes the best thing would be for you to bake them yourselves. At least you have control in what ingredients are being used. Be creative and be healthy.

A little sweetness brings happiness to our lives and there is no problem in having a treat once in a while.

Why is Sugar Bad?

We all know that sugar is bad but why do we continue to put it in our bodies? We need to start thinking that sugar is "poison" and that when we ingest excess amounts of sugar it causes are bodies to become toxic in which creates an environment for diseases and illnesses to occur.

One of the first steps in my recovery was to cut sugar out of my diet. To eliminate unnecessary sweets. It is difficult in the beginning especially if you eat a lot of sugar items but step by step it is important to get rid of it in your diet. If you drink soda, start off by cutting that out of your diet. If you eat cookies or sweets everyday, start off by just eating it 2-3 times a week eventually eating no sweets. If you want to cure your disease then  you must cut off the poison that is in your body.
